Does television have a harmful influence on our lives?

There are television sets in almost every home, rich or poor. Each individual is affected by the different messages which are passed onto them. The issue I would like to consider in this essay is whether television has a harmful effect on us. I vehemently feel that television does not have a harmful influence, provided that we ourselves have a control over it. In fact, television has taught us many valuable lessons and these have proved that it is useful, rather then being harmful.

Television is educational if we choose the correct show to watch. Documentaries and news are very important sources of information and it teaches us about the different happenings globally. For instance, Pluto is contend to be oval-shaped and is not regarded as a planet. This useful fact helps us to know more, and also widens our knowledge about the world.

Music and Arts provides room for creativity in a persons' mind. Furthermore, the enchanting music can soothe the minds of people who are stressed out with work. Some programmes also help us to understand the tradition and cultures of the different racial groups, which ultimately fosters social cohesion worldwide.

Even with all the benefits of television, some people may still think that they are susceptible to some certain channels. For instance, a horror movie when the lead actors start to commit suicide for the traumatic ghastly experiences faced. The audience may be so ensconced in the show that they are mentally and emotionally affected, feeling nervous, enervated and unwell. However, this may unexpectedly be of help to the development of a person's character. A person who has no courage may become one of great bravery. Hence, we have to possess the positive minds in order to purge ourselves from evil influences, and to be unaffected by those fictional movies on our televisions. We choose what we believe in and we should not be gullible to things which are out to cheat and scare us. There are hardly any factors which prove the flaws of television watching.

Simple problems which television can pose is that it drains up our precious time needed for our daily works. This is when we need the control over our time plan, to be able to complete our work without disruption. We can then take some time to relax with our favorite programme on our television. In conclusion, television has much uses and it is not harmful for the viewers have the control over it.
